On the night of April 22, a green turtle weighing between 90-100 kg crawled up to the sandy beach of Bay Canh Island  Turtle Conservation in Con Dao to nest and lay eggs in the 2024 Con Dao turtle season. During this event, rangers and turtle conservation volunteers from Con Dao Turtle Conservation National Park, while assisting the turtle, noticed a tracking tag from Malaysia on it. Con Dao Turtle Conservation is approximately 550 km away from Kuala Terengganu, the nearest city in Malaysia.

According to a park official, the turtle is about 40 years old. The tag clearly showed its country of origin, but other symbols had faded, making it impossible to read all the information.

Six years ago, another female turtle, tagged in Indonesia, had come to Con Dao Turtle Conservation to lay eggs during Con Dao turtle season.

Last year, during Con Dao turtle season, the beaches of Con Dao welcomed more than 2,700 Con Dao turtles’ nests.
