87 Sea Turtle Hatchlings Return to the Sea at Con Dao Turtle Conservation
Con Dao National Park (Ba Ria – Vung Tau) has once again highlighted its ongoing efforts in sea turtle conservation in Vietnam. Over 87 baby green sea turtle hatchlings, recognized as having “Malaysian citizenship,” recently embarked on their journey to the ocean after hatching on Bay Canh Island, a core area of Con Dao turtle conservation.
These green sea turtle hatchlings emerged from a clutch of 108 sea turtle eggs laid by a tagged sea turtle originating from Malaysia, more than two months prior. The meticulous care provided by Con Dao National Park’s sea turtle conservation volunteers ensured a safe transition for these hatchlings into their natural habitat.
Visitors to Con Dao National Park were privileged to witness the spectacle of sea turtle hatchlings returning to the sea. Observing the initial steps of these newborns serves as a poignant reminder of the crucial role that green sea turtle conservation plays in marine biodiversity conservation.
The recent event demonstrates Con Dao’s role in supporting green sea turtles, affirming Con Dao National Park’s significant contributions to sea turtle conservation in Vietnam. Con Dao National Park and sea turtle conservation programs annually welcome over 2,000 mother green sea turtles coming to nest and lay eggs on its protected shores.
